Cavalleria Rusticana

The Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra undertakes a new challenge: a large-scale operatic production of "Cavalleria Rusticana" by the Italian composer Pietro Mascagni under the Artistic Direction of Yiorgos Kountouris.

Cavalleria Rusticana (tr. Rustic Chivalry) is one of the fundamental works of Italian verismo. The story takes place in a Sicilian village around the end of the 19th century, during Easter. The main subjects of this musico-dramatic masterpiece are love, betrayal and honor.

The production is an innovative music educational programme which involves young talents and aims to develop the already established objectives in the music culture of this country. The project engages around 200 students, music pedagogues and professionals from Cyprus, Europe, Russia and Israel.

The audience of Cyprus will have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of this ambitious production in two stunning performances with the fiery talent and enthusiasm of the Cyprus' national youth music ensemble.
