Theseus Street Festival

Theseus street within the Medieval walls of Nicosia will host the three day "Theseus street festival" from April 30th to May 2nd, 2010. The initiative for the organizing of the festival came from a group of residents of Theseus street.

The festival is self-organized as for the participants and has an anti- consumeristic approach. Theseus street festival is not only for and about the residents of the neighborhood, but becomes a motivation for all the inhabitants of the walled city of Nicosia and other aware citizens to highlight the following goals of the Festival:

• To present the problems of the neighborhood with a positive attitude.
• To demonstrate that the neighborhood can be experienced and enjoyed in many different ways, not just a road-passage for the cars.
• To invite all to experience and realize the positive aspects of living in the Medieval Center.
• To show the affection of the people for their neighborhood.
• Theseus str. is a neighborhood like many others in the Medieval Town that have an important role to play in the city.
• To give the message of regaining public space for the people and the neighborhoods and improvement of the quality of life of these areas.

Programmed Activities:

1. Traditional games, treats and presentation of traditional professions by artisans and neighbors of Theseus street.
2. Photography Exhibitions and Presentations with visual material about the city, outdoor film projections, art exhibitions.
3. Music workshops for young and old, music from DJs and live music groups, dance and literature installations.
4. Recycled art Workshop, art activities for young and old, activities for children.
5. Planting of traditional Cypriot plants in open spaces of neighborhood.
6. Bazaar with crafts and stands from the neighbors.
7. Mural and graffiti on various walls.

Hours:
Friday 30th April: 15.00- 19.00p.m. Educational workshops, 19.00-21.00p.m. presentations.

Saturday 1st May: main day of the Festival. There will be activities all day long from 10a.m. to 10p.m.

Sunday 2nd May: 11.00 a.m.-16.00p.m. Closing of the Festival with events and food- treats.

The festival is co-organized by the residents of Theseus street and Easy Going Productions, and is supported by ETEK (Cypriot Technical and Scientific Chamber). The various organized groups that are active in the old town (f.e. Awake within the Walls, Falies etc.) will be participating as will various artist and musicians
