Asomates Dynamis
Duration: 17'

Music: Ludwig Van Beethoven, Kreutzer Sonata (Adagio sostenuto-Presto)
Image design: Vicky Marinou
Dancers: Elena Chatzidaki, Loizos Konstantinou

Duet - Kreutzer sonata
The well-known sonata by Beethoven inspired Tolstoy to write a short novel about love, obsession, and the destructive passion of jealousy. The energy of a man and a woman as they meet in a duet, the way they assume roles, the way they formulate their movements, how they listen and respond, lose and gain control in their effort to remain the object of each other's desire, becomes a trip of seduction and a ruthless power game. Love becomes the teacher on a path to self knowledge. It leads them to their limits in states they never imagined they would arrive at, and they eventually see love as a wise man sitting on the other side of their passion, waiting for them ...to cross over and see their own self and the beloved one face to face.
Duet is a part of a full length piece, Kreutzer Sonata, which Asomates Dynameis is going to present the Fall of 2011.

Grown-Up
When I was a child I was in a hurry to grow up, and here I am... first wrinkles, signs of grey hair...I'm not pure anymore, nor am I innocent.... I feel slower, heavier, smaller....ok, maybe and a little bit wiser!

Through the tales, I'm trying to spot on the repetitive archetypal motives in narration as part of our tradition, and parallelize with repetition of kinisiological motifs in traditional dance, as well as repetitive motifs in traditional music. Based on traditional patterns I present a contemporary piece...and yes, maybe the witches and the dark forest have given their place to extraterrestrial creatures and moonscapes...but I will insist on the old and well known Dragon.

"State zero to twelve" is part of a choreographic research that begun in 2006 titled "A Human Study" which focuses on creating brief choreographic journals that lead sometimes to full evening pieces. "State zero to twelve" is the fifth study created after Affect, Between, Terminus and Present Tense and focuses on the environment, its affect and embodiment.

Dice
Cubes rain, heavy bricks that hit deep inside. Big words are numbers, each number and a promise. Cube-boxes with screens, sit a series of ties, struggling with a view to poison your mind. Dice thrown pawns to make. The landscape, a game that starts pure and violent ends. Ages wearing the tie and put a new one. He drowned stays the same. Remember. Verbal abuse is just as scary with the physical.

Over Under
An employee in a company. A mother within a family. A man who walks his dog. These are common examples of the various roles we impersonate in our everyday life. But, how do these different personae interact when the exercise of power changes hands and takes different forms? What happens when the oppressed becomes the oppressor?
Under different circumstances the boundaries of control seem to blur, yet are we still left with a freedom of choice? Can we really resist? Abuse of power: do we tolerate it or is there a breaking point? In a similar way, how do we behave when it is our turn to exercise power?
This is a chain reaction of consequences, resulting from the prevalent notion of power and control which changes hands, takes different shapes and (re)defines whole societies.

Linear Regression

Linear Regression
In statistics, linear regression is an approach to modeling the relationship between a scalar variable Y and one or more variables denoted X. In linear regression, data is modeled using linear functions, and unknown model parameters are estimated from the data. Such models are called linear models. Most commonly, linear regression refers to a model in which the conditional mean of Y given the value of X is an affine function of X. Less commonly, linear regression could refer to a model in which the median, or some other quantile of the conditional distribution of y given X is expressed as a linear function of X. Like all forms of regression analysis, linear regression focuses on the conditional probability distribution of Y given X, rather than on the joint probability distribution of Y and X, which is the domain of multivariate analysis.
In choreographic terms the aim of this study was to determine the probability of a correlation between two variables: movement phrases and emotionality. Six participants undertook a choreographic process of learning specific demonstrated movement phrases based in contemporary dance and structured in a non randomized order. Three possible outcomes predicted were:
A: Emotionality transmitted to audience through personal expression and dynamic changes in musicality of individual dancer.
B: Emotionality transmitted to audience through overall structure of the piece (beginning, middle, end, climax,) or known as "choreographic intent".
C: No emotional response form audience (excitement, empathic feelings of struggle and liberation, general aesthetic appreciation) denoted by weak/short applause.
