13th International Conference of Contemporary Mosaic

13th International Conference of Contemporary Mosaic and Pancyprian Mosaic Exhibition.

The International Association of Contemporary Mosaic organizes an International Conference every two years in one of its member countries. This year for the first time the Conference will be held in Cyprus. The 13th International Conference of Contemporary Mosaic will take place in Athienou at the Kallinikeio Municipal Museum of Athienou on the 28th, 29th and 30th of September 2012.

The participants will include artists and speakers mostly from all the countries of the EU and from other countries, i.e.: Egypt, Brazil, Japan, Canada and Russia. During the conference well known artists will highlight the contemporary mosaic as a form of art, its role in architecture and the urban environment and the transition from ancient, traditional and Byzantine mosaic to contemporary mosaic. The languages of the conference will be Greek and English.

The conference will also include an inauguration of a Poster Exhibition, whereby participants from abroad will present their work. At the same time the Pancyprian Mosaic Exhibition will open to the public exhibiting unique works of art of Cypriot mosaicists. The inauguration ceremony of the Exhibition will be held mid - September. The Exhibition will last for a month, including the celebrations for the name day of the protector Saint of Athienou, Saint Fokas on the 21st and 22nd of September.

Artists who wish to participate in the Pancyprian Mosaic Exhibition are invited to express their interest by sending the participation form, a CV and a photograph of the mosaic to the e-mail [email protected] or fax 24522333. Deadline for submissions is the 31st of July 2012. The mosaic should be delivered from 25th to 31st of August 2012 until 2:00 p.m. at the Kallinikeio Municipal Museum of Athienou (telephone number 24524002). Each participant is invited to create one contemporary mosaic 21 X 30 cm in natural colours. The mosaics will form two syntheses constructed permanently at a prominent point in the Municipality, in remembrance of the 13th International Conference of Contemporary Mosaic.

After the Conference, between 1st – 5th of October, Cypriot Mosaicists will organize for the participants a series of visits to places of interest such as: archaeological sites and museums and places where they promote the mosaic. The aim of all the events is to promote worldwide the historical and cultural wealth of Cyprus.
