14th Paradise Jazz Festival

This year’s festival is dedicated to all the local musicians whose support in this time of great challenges is helping this event to go on, because they love it! and because they grew up musically with this event and also because the festival's cultural contribution will now pass to the next generation! For this reason, the elite of the jazz musicians in Cyprus will present some of the best music that there is in our country during the 14ο Paradise Jazz Festival that will take place on the 9th & 10th of August at your favorite venue, Paradise Place in Pomos. It is very important to mention that because of the musician's support, the cost of an evening’s ticket is only 10 euro! So we invite you to join together with us in this great musical meeting where four groups will perform, two each night featuring a variety of music styles.

The program will begin on Friday 9th of August, time 9.30pm in an investigational way, with the ‘Million Grains of Sand’. The Trio's members that are Lefteris Moumtzis who will be on guitar loops and vocals, Michalis Michael on trumpet and flugelhorn and Alexander Gagatsis on vibes and percussion. They will present an experimental set of unusual arrangements consisting of original compositions and jazz standards.

We will continue with an old familiar group at Paradise Place, maybe with the most loyal audience between the Cyprus jazz bands, the ‘Irinaeos Trio’, who of course are Irinaeos Koullouras on the acoustic bass, Giorgos Koulas on drums and Giorgos Krasides on saxophone. In their repertoire there are pieces carefully chosen from jazz in general and authentic compositions. Their style is a mix of modern jazz, trad, Mediterranean and ethnic which results in a unique and authentic musical trademark. We cannot wait to listen to…

On Saturday 10th of August we will begin with ‘The Charis Ioannou Trio’ which is a traditional jazz trio that focuses on the Great American Songbook of the 30s, 40s and 50s.

Classic songs made famous by legendary voices such as Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and many more, which will now be revisited by tenor saxman Charis Ioannou along with upcoming bass player Greg Makamian and the sensational Ioannis Vafeas on drums. A performance that guarantees to enthrall the audience at this one off appearance at the magical 14th Paradise Jazz Festival!

We will end this musical celebration with an upbeat band, featuring upcoming stars from the Cyprus jazz environment, called Funkystraat. They are group dedicated to jazz meets funk. The band was formed in 2012. The members are Ermis Michail on electric guitar, Andreas Panteli on keys (rhodes, organ), Andreas Rodosthenous electric bass and Andreas Stefanou on drums. The group performs music based on the Jazz harmonic language in combination with rhythms and grooves from the world of funk.

Once again we will have the pleasure in presenting well known and upcoming musicians together. Everybody will be there for the traditional jam sessions that will follow, therefore organize your program and join us! You will love it!

As we already said tickets cost 10euros and music performances will begin at 9.00pm

Paradise Place will organize a buffet, 10 euro a plate and drinks will be sold at reasonable prices.

Also there will be a limited space for camping and for sleeping overnight for those who cannot find an apartment and don’t want to drive back for obvious reasons!
