'15' by Vito Xenodochides
Vito Xenodochides is counting the years of his artistic career by numbering his stories on canvases in his solo exhibition 15.
He applies the acrylic paint using a plethora of tools - among those, his bare hands - somehow managing to tame and mix the colours with an incredibly sensitive and subtle manner. With his unique technique, he cancels the classic characteristics of acrylic, depositing it on canvas with an unprecedented fluidity and constant motion. Through this painting ritual, he creates abstract compositions that inspire a variety of images and emotions. A ruddy heart that swims like a snail in a dreamy ocean that is gleaming with light, can be reinterpreted over and over again, taking other forms. His work exudes a melancholic beauty, along with an intense feeling of hope.
Vito Xenodochides’s artistic work invites its viewers to discover maxims of their own imagination, and to lose themselves in his surreal landscapes without any hesitation. His autobiographical paintings reveal his meandering and evolution as an artist; although the works form a cohesive continuity, each one can stand independently.
