17th Paradise Jazz Festival
It gives us a great pleasure to share with you and announce the music program of the 17th Paradise Jazz Festival, which will take place in beautiful Pomos Village, at Paradise Place during the weekend of Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th of August 2016.
For this year we are happy to blend a rich program which contains 4 bands all together for both nights and an organized ‘After Hours jazz meeting’ per night with Island's best new projects, new cooperators and special quests. We are so proud to have them all with us. All together, like every year, musically it is a variety of different styles not to be missed.
More specific on Friday the 5th the festival will start on 9.30pm with Christos Yerolatsitis Trio.
Christos himself is a jazz pianist who lives in The Netherlands for the last 7 years. From 2009-2013 he followed the Jazz-Piano bachelor program at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and from 2013-2015 he continued with his master studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with the pianists Karel Boehlee and Harmen Franje.
Christos has shared the stage with some of the best jazz musicians of the Dutch scene such as Benjamin Herman, John Ruocco and Simon Rigter. He has attended workshops of Brad Mehldau, Jason Moran, Enrico Pieranunzi, Aaron Parks and more.
At the moment performs on a regular basis in several projects in and around the Netherlands both as a sideman and leader. Together with Andreas Rodosthenous on bass and Stelios Xydias on drums he formed his trio where they mainly perform his original music.
We will continue on 10.30pm with a dynamic presentation both from music style perspective, and in terms of band's composition.
The ‘Afro Funk 6tet’ will perform for us standard jazz pieces with a similar style to their name. Group's members, who are very well known to the Paradise Jazz Festival fans, are Michalis Michael (trumpet) and George Krasides (sax) on horns, Giorgos Morfitis on keys, Rodos Panagiotou and George Koulas on percussion and drums (maybe in that order, maybe not) and on acoustic bass Irinaeos Koullouras. A very impressive and promising line –up.
Friday's program (and Saturday's) will end by ‘After Hours jazz meeting’, an organized jam session from selected attendees musicians who will be there all around Paradise Place to celebrate with us the 17th Paradise Jazz Festival!
On Saturday the 6th of August on 9.30pm we will welcome on stage the ‘JACKET’ which is a 3 nation group formed by artists from Slovenia, Belgium and Cyprus. The quintet will perform original compositions by each member, in the modern jazz style, presenting their latest published and unpublished work. The group is comprised of Jan Kus (sax), Ermis Michael (guitar), Andreas Panteli (piano), Cahit Kutrafali (bass) and Kristijan Krajncan (drums). The members first crossed paths in The Netherlands during their studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Being based in different cities around the world now, the five musicians reunite once again to explore each other’s work and present their new music at the 2016 Paradise Jazz Festival.
On our next theme, which will start around 11.00pm we will present the ‘The Gershwin Project’ by ‘Ioanna Troullidou Sextet’. It is a collection of favorite songs of the pianist and composer George Gershwin, some in a remake of the composer and saxophonist Chris Byars with a more modern yet classical approach, and others in a contemporize form. The project will be performed with their interpreting by the musicians Ioanna Troullidou in vocals, Charis Ioannou on saxophone, Elias Ioannou on trumpet, Marios Toumbas on piano, Irenaeos Koullouras on contrabass and Ioannis Vafeas on drums.
The Festival will end as we mentioned above with the ‘After Hours jazz meeting’.
For one more time we underline that we feel very proud and privilege to have all these musicians with us and we like to thank them from our heart for all their positive vibes.
We keep the price of the admission in a considering low price, for your convenience like last year (and many years before), on €10 per night.
At the venue you will be able to find tasty food and drinks in reasonable prices. The place will also provide showers and if somebody wised don't like to drink and drive, he could bring his tent for free camping… So come early and prepared…
