1st Cyprus Sup Race

Live the challenge, compete to qualify in Cyprus and live the legend in Greece: the crossing of the unique Isthmus of Corinth!

On Sunday October 6th, the 1st CYPRUS SUP RACE 2013 will take place at “The Spot”, Kiti Beach. The race is for amateurs and professional athletes, irrespective of gender, age and equipment and aspires to become the starting point for the stand up and paddle (SUP) sport in Cyprus.

The participants will compete in three categories: men, women and children. The winner of each category shall have the unique opportunity to travel free with Aegean Airlines and take part, in the final race of the 3rd Hellenic SUP CUP 2013, the crossing of the unique Isthmus of Corinth, which will take place on Sunday, 20th October 2013.

A few words on SUP – Stand Up Paddle Surfing

The roots of SUP or Stand Up Paddle Surfing are found thousands of years ago. Ancient tribes in Africa and South America used the canoe or other vessels, standing or kneeling in order to travel or find food. The modern version however was born in Polynesia and developed in Hawaii. Today, SUP is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide with many fanatic followers including many renowned athletes, Hollywood stars and other famous people among them. SUP is also referred to as the “social sport”, since many people can paddle on their paddleboards in groups, talking and exercising simultaneously whilst waiting to catch the next wave.
