Wednesday June 6, 2012 at 20:00
Until:
Friday June 22, 2012
Eight years after her last solo exhibition, Andreana Cambanella presents the exhibition “#2”, which concentrates on figures and is part of a bigger series of works. The pieces in this series are divided in two groups, which are defined by the different materials and techniques used in each one by the artist. Cambanella uses prime materials -pencil, ink and paper- to compose one of the groups of this series of works. And, using acrylic paints with a dripping technique, she composes the other (and more fluid) section of works.
The artist refuses to refer to the figures as the theme of this series, per se. Instead, she handles figures as a starting point for her research in the field of art. Emphasising on the female form and body (usually exluding from the composition models’ heads), Cambanella’s works provoke viewers’ thoughts. The face of each person is one’s identity, and while charged with this notion, it becomes primary next to the body. The body, however, characterised by "beautiful" forms, becomes the focal point of these works, where this "portrait of the body" becomes the centre of attention for the viewers. These “portraits of bodies” come in direct dialogue with works by the artist depicting (more convensional) portraits (of faces), painted in an abstract manner. Any interpretation of the works, is left to each viewer.
The main concern in Cambanella’s work, is a reflection on the role of painting itself in art, during an era dominated by multimedia.
