2nd National Youth Conference

The Youth Board of Cyprus, as the competent national authority dealing with youth issues, has set the strengthening of young people’s participation and involvement in social and democratic life, as one of its main priorities, by structuring participatory consultation processes. The Youth Board holds the responsibility of supporting the involvement of young people in decision making processes at all levels, which is acrucial element for the development of active citizenship. In this context, the Youth Board, has established in 2015 the National Youth Conference which brings together young people from different age groups, geographical and social backgrounds and is now heading for the realization of the second one.

The 2nd Conference is particularly important because it will involve both youth organizations and young people, who will have the opportunity to express their views. The Youth Board gives voice to young people of Cyprus from youth organizations and non-governmental organizations, as well as non organized youth. In this way, all youth have the opportunity to get together and discuss their thoughts, opinions, expectations and worries about the future. This will be achieved through their participation in various workshops, within the framework of the Conference, based on modern methodologies and applying the principles of non-formal learning.

The 2nd National Youth Conference will address current and crucial issues which are directly related to Cyprus and are in line with the European framework. Organizing consultations with young people in such important issues will bridge the gap between young people and policy makers in an effort to achieve a positive change in our country. Thus, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, decision-makers on youth issues as well as other stakeholders with experience and expertise on youth policy have been invited to attend the Youth Conference.

The topics of the Conference are as follows:

- Apathy or Participation: Agenda for a vibrant democracy
- Cyprus Question: Perspectives for a reunited Cyprus
- Exclusion or Access: Tackling youth unemployment
- Stagnation or Innovation: Tomorrow’s world of work through young people’s innovative business ideas
- Collapse or Success: New ways for a sustainable Cyprus

We consider this event to be a milestone in youth issues on a national level and for this reason we would like to invite all young people to attend this unique event which will enable youth to become agents of change and to actively participate in shaping the future of Cyprus.
