3rd Avaton Music Festival
The 3rd Avaton Music Festival will take place on 17th, 18th and 19th of November 2012 at Palio Xydadiko (Old Vinegar Factory), 34 Genethliou Mitella Street, the heart of old Limassol. Reception will be held right next door, at Sto Dromo bar (ex Kafeney).
Avaton Music Festival is a unique contemporary music event that promotes the 20th and 21stcentury music. It has a desire and the knowledge to bring together different, often conflicting worlds, contemporary instrumental and electronic/digitally created music. We are actively supporting current trends in composition and music technology by providing performing opportunities and artistic residencies for young artists from Cyprus and abroad. We are at a productive intersection where music creativity can either be overwhelmed or augmented, powerful and unpredictable, opening up visionary landscapes.
During three days, the festival combines educational as well as artistic approaches aiming to bring closer the gap between performer/composer and the audience. Through lectures, composers and performers together with the audience have the opportunity to talk about their artistic developments and connect in an open dialogue about their creative process. In doing this we aim to inspire people to become involved in contemporary music and demonstrate the vitality of the art form.
This year, Avaton Music Festival will be in its 3rd edition and we are proud to present two internationally renown artists, violinist Barbara Lüneburg (Germany) and composer /electronic music /multimedia performer Marko Ciciliani (Croatia). During the festival Barbara will perform on violin and electric violin presenting her latest multimedia production “Weapon of choice”
The 3rd Avaton Music Festival welcomes additional activities: late night non-traditional setting under the name Avaton Distorted that focuses around the electronic/digital and experimental music, visual and performing arts, the first concert of this kind in Cyprus. it will take place at bar Sto Dromo (ex Kafeney) and is free and open to the public; the Cypriot Composers Concert dedicated exclusively to promoting Cypriot composers; introducing the Avaton Young Performers Competition, the first contemporary music competition in Cyprus, as well as promoting the residence musicians program forming the Avaton Contemporary music Ensemble which.
We will present numerous performances by the leading Cypriot musicians and international composers including several Cyprus and world premiers. Avaton Music Festival aspiration is to bring creative people together and encourage, support and promote the development of the contemporary music, art scene and education in Cyprus.
