5 Years KIOS
The University of Cyprus is organising a workshop to present the research and innovation activities of the KIOS Research Centre for Intelligent Systems and Networks. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, 10th of June 2014 between 8:40 to 14:30 at the Social Facilities Centre of the University of Cyprus (lecture hall 010, building 7).
The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, will address the workshop. Speeches will also be made by the Director General of the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation Dr. Vassilis Tsakalos, the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Constantinos Christofides, and the Director of KIOS, Professor Marios Polycarpou. The workshop will also include scientific presentations from the international recognized Professors Philippos C. Patsalis, Minister of Health, Christos Cassandras from the Boston University (USA) and Cesare Alippi from the Politecnico di Milano (Italy). The workshop will also showcase a series of posters and demonstrations of the research and technologies being developed at KIOS.
The KIOS Research Center has been operating for over five years. During this time it has acquired an excellent reputation within the international scientific communities. The Center participates actively in the international research arena and contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the area of Information and Communication Technologies. Application areas for these types of technologies include electric power systems and renewable energy, water, telecommunication and transportation networks, as well as ICT for health and the protection of the environment.
KIOS, a large research center within the University of Cyprus, has secured more than 50 research funded programs, totaling over €10 million from EU funding. With these research grants, the research center employs more than 80 researchers, to undertake important research in key technological areas of importance to Cyprus and the global economy. KIOS is now considered a center of excellence for its contributions to the promotion of the knowledge-based economy in Cyprus, the creation of new jobs in high-tech areas and the design of new products and services.
