50 by 50 by 50 - Group Exhibition
Orpheus Gallery is celebrating 7 years since first opening on 29 March 2002 and to celebrate this occasion it is holding its second 50x50x50 Group Exhibition from 5 to 19 May 2009. This is a special group exhibition within Cyprus’s own art scene, gathering a total of 50 artists all of whom working to the set dimensions of 50cm x 50 cm; hence its title.
50x50x50 is the unique concept of Orpheus Gallery - using the occasion to introduce new artists from a wider international background. For us it is important to involve works by emerging artists alongside some of the more established names within Cyprus’s own art world. Thereby, offering an ideal opportunity for upcoming artists, as well as providing a standard for them to aim for. Some artists taking part usually work on a much larger scale, so the dimensions 50x50cm offered an opportunity for them to work within a more restricted frame. The feedback from these particular artists’s was interesting, amusing and unusual, but the end results speak for themselves.
Proceeds from the sales of the Exhibition Catalogue in support KYFA,Cyprus Foundation for AIDS. KYFA is a voluntary organisation, non-profit making registered charity, recognising equality and diversity. Offering free social and psychological support, legal and financial advice. Funded only by private donations and fund raising events.
