5th Cypriot Directors Film Festival - Under the Stars
The Directors Guild Cyprus in collaboration with CYBC co-organise the 5th Cypriot Directors Film Festival, welcoming the autumn with open air screenings at two cinemas in Nicosia and in Derynia.
Despite the economic hardships that Cyprus is currently going through and the limited production opportunities, the Cypriot directors continue to fight for Cypriot cinema, by presenting exclusive screenings of Cypriot films.
The screenings will take place under the autumn sky, and will include awarded feature films and short films by Cypriot directors, along with documentaries. The festival will, for the first time, run parallel in Derynia, with the support of the Derynia Municipality.
The festival will open with the multiawarded ‘The Knifer’ by Yannis Economides. Two documentaries will also be screened: ‘Ο τόπος εν ο άδρωπος’, by Michael Georgiades and ‘Entelechy’, by Stavros Papageorgiou. The festival is also celebrating the short film, by presenting: ‘In the name of the sparrow’, by Kyros Papavassiliou, ‘Lullaby’, by Yianna Americanou, ‘Escape of the Queen’ by Petros Charalambous, and ‘Pharmakon’, by Ioakim Mylonas.
The Directors Guild Cyprus is proud to honour this year two important Cypriot filmmakers, Yiorgos Katsouris and Costas Pharmakas, by screening selected films and commercials that the two shot in Cyprus in the past.
The Festival is supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Phileleftheros newspaper is the communication sponsor.
