6th Mediterranean Folklore Dance Festival
The Cultural Heritage Association of Nicosia in cooperation with Larnaca Municipality is organizing the 6th Mediterranean Festival of Folklore Dance from the 16th until the 21st of September, 2011.
This year the Festival is part of the collective effort by nine municipalities to claim the title "Nicosia 2017, Cultural Capital of Europe" and will welcome groups from Greece, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Latvia, Hungary, Ukraine, Armenia and Cyprus.
The Festival will begin on Friday 16/09/2011 with the opening of the exhibition "Traditional Costume of the Mediterranean", at the Municipal Gallery in Larnaca, at 7:00 pm. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the honorable Mayor of Larnaca Mr. Andreas Moiseos. Then Croatia, the guest country this year, will present a fashion show inspired by designs of ethnic costumes. The exhibition will be open to the public from the 16th until the 21st of September (hours: 10:00 - 13:00 and 16:00 - 22:00).
The official opening of the Festival will be held on 17/9/2011 at 20:00 at the Sea Front Stage at Finikoudes. The opening ceremony and the program will be preceded by a large parade of the bands and will conclude with Fireworks. During the event the talented Cypriot artist Nicholas Savvides will perform songs of the famous Croatian singer Tony Centinski.
On September 20 at 7:00 pm the festival will move to Nicosia with a large parade with colorful costumes and live music from each band that will pass from the Ledra and Onasagorou Streets and will arrive at Pallouriotissa Square, where they will give a spectacular show at 8:30 pm.
