Aerowaves Nights

In October 2012, Dance House Lemesos has the important responsibility of hosting the annual Aerowaves meeting in Limassol and will welcome 40 dance experts and cultural delegates from across Europe; they will be invited to watch, discuss and select works of exceptionally talented choreographers, from the hundreds who apply to the Aerowaves platform each year. This is a very important event for the Dance House and the dance community of Limassol and Cyprus in general. Dance House Lemesos will also present the works of three Aerowaves previous selections and three local artists, for two nights at the Rialto Theatre, with General title "One’s World".

Aerowaves is a European dance network for research and cross-border presentation that started in 1996 in response to the emergence of a generation of contemporary choreographers and companies. Around fifteen dance specialists including presenters, writers and artists, gathered in London to look at the work on video of 70 young European dance companies - ten were selected to present their work.

Those ten dance companies performed once each over five weekends in January and February 1997 in London at The Place. These emerging artists benefited from the experience of performing their work in a new cultural context, and audiences responded with enthusiasm to the very varied pieces, each of its own high standard.

Today Aerowaves is represented by 40 Partners and Associate Presenters in 34 different European countries, who all meet together in October to select the works for the following year from around 500 open applications. All are experts in their field of identifying emerging dance talent, both in their own country and internationally.

Meetings have been hosted in London, Helsinki, Ghent, Luxembourg, Aarhus, Tallinn, Amsterdam, Prague, Cork, Montemor-o-Novo, Malmö, Zürich, Madrid, Vilnius and Moscow, Poric and this year Limassol.
