Agamemnon's Children
Based on Euripides and Sophocles
Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden, Germany
Direction/adaptation: Konstanze Lauterbach, Dagmar Borrmann
Iphigenia: Doreen Nixdorf
Electra: Sybille Weiser
Orestes: Michael von Bennigsen
This production is the first to depict the entire, interconnected story of Agamemnon’s children. Compiled and adapted, the play is based on Euripides’ Iphigenia at Aulis, Orestes and Iphigenia in Tauris as well as Sophocles’ Electra. The synthesis of these four plays focuses on the lives of Agamemnon’s children presenting them from different points of view. Their destiny and actions make them perpetrators and victims in the vicious cycle of violence inherent in the Atreides’ myth.
