Aida - "The Met: Live in HD"
MET: LiveinHD, the worldwide leading provider of alternative cinema content is shown in more than 1,700 theatres in 54 countries, making the MET the only arts foundation with such a wide ongoing global activity. The MET was the first arts institution to experiment as an alternative content provider, beginning on a modest scale in 2006. Since then, each season’s program has grown and, today, it counts more than 9.6 million tickets sold. During the current season alone, approximately 3 million tickets are expected to be sold.
MET opera stars serve as hosts for the HD series, conducting several live interviews with the cast, crew and production teams, introducing the famous behind-the-scenes features. The worldwide HD audience is given an unprecedented look at what is going on during the staging of an opera at one of the world’s greatest lyric theatres.

Verdi’s impressive opera set, which takes place in ancient Egypt, presents Ukrainian soprano, Liudmyla Monastyrska, who makes her MET debut in the title role of the enslaved Ethiopian princess. Olga Borodina, one of the world’s best-known interpreters of this role sings Amneris, the royal rival of Aida, while Roberto Alagna is Radamès, the hero who must choose between his love for Aida and his duty vis-à-vis his country. Fabio Luisi conducts the first performances of the opera at the MET, which also stars George Gagnidze as the Ethiopian king Amonasro. The spectacular production of Sonja Frisell uses all the theatrical capabilities of the MET stage, aiming to introduce the audience to the grandeur of ancient Egypt.
