Alexis Descharmes - recital
Alexis Descharmes is a modern violoncellist who likes to discover contemporary musical repertories. He was born in 1977 and received his education at the Conservatoire de Paris under the direction of Michel Strauss and Philippe Muller. He is the 1997 Valentino Bucchi and 1999 Avant-Scenes (contests) Laureate and has received support over the past few years from several foundations. Since 1998, he has been a member of the Court-Circuit ensemble. He is very involved in this orchestra and works closely with his artistic director, Philippe Hurel.
In 2006, Alexis Descharmes joined the Paris National Opera’s orchestra and takes a very active role in the current repertory. He is the dedicatee of fifty contemporary works, concertos and solos (Hurel, Saariaho, Fedele, Mantovani, Reynolds, Durieux, Matalon, Fujikura, Nillni ...).
Today, Alexis Descharmes has to his credit twenty recordings; including Deutsche Grammophon, agreement, naive, Aeon, assai, Intrada, Fontec, to name a few.
During his concert in Cyprus Alexis Descharmes will perform contemporary music derived from classical works (Bach) or contemporary composers (Philippe Hurel, Kaija Saariaho) and will put a special emphasis on Cypriot composers such as Christina Athinodorou Yiorgos Christophi, Faidros Kavallaris, etc .
