Alkinoos Ioannides & Karine Polwart
In this rare, eclectic concert, Alkinoos Ioannides uniquely brings together Greek and foreign songs, a small acoustic ensemble and a symphony orchestra, the personal and the collective. In the first part of the programme, Alkinoos will interpret songs from his well-known repertoire, joined by his regular collaborators, the outstanding soloists Yiorgos Kaloudis, Fotis Siotas, Manolis Pappos and Dimitris Tsekouras as well as by a special guest: the Scottish songwriter and composer Karine Polwart. Lyricism, originality and broader social and philosophical connotations characterize the musical journeys of Alkinoos and Karine. They both draw on the musical traditions of their countries of origin, which they imbue with a deeply personal approach and contemporary sounds in order to offer us a co-creation about sharing roots and finding a common ground.
In the second part, the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Yiorgos Kountouris, will fill up the stage. Alkinoos Ioannidis has orchestrated his songs for both the orchestra and his own group especially for this collaboration.
