With the Sound of the Alphorn and the Rhythm of the Waltz
The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra welcomes the New Year with lots of rhythm, waltzes and a unique instrument, the Alphorn and presents a series of concerts under the title “With the sound of the Alphorn and the rhythm of the Waltz”. Under the music direction of the orchestra’s artistic director and chief conductor Alkis Baltas and with soloist Carlo Torlontano on the Alphorn.
The deep and rich sound of the Alphorn, a folk instrument, symbol of life in the Alps a few centuries back, finds a special place as a soloist in the classical repertoire, as well as in Cyprus theatres, for the first time! We will also enjoy eight specially selected waltzes by different composers of the 19th century which wonderfully exhibit the expressive potential of this genre from a time when the waltz was extremely popular in European high society.
