Amikeco Puppet show

The awarded theatre group “Canicula Puppets” welcomes the new year with a performance that shows the power of love and the value of true friendship - AMIKECO. Two performances will take place in Nicosia: one on February 9 at 4pm and another one on February 10 at 11am, at the Home for Cooperation (28 Marcou Dracou Street, Nicosia, 1102).

AMIKECO is a performance that communicates, in a very special and harmonious way, the power of love and the value of true friendship. The name AMIKECO derives from Esperanto, the most widely used international language created to harmonize the different peoples of the world. In this unique language, “amikeco” means friendship. Following Esperanto's noble conception of intercultural communication among the people of all nations, the performance "AMIKECO" exclusively uses music. Without words, this theatrical work of Canícula Puppets attempts to use music as a universal communication tool. Music has always allowed the expression of impressions and emotions, regardless of space and time. In this performance, the melody, written specifically for AMIKECO, plays an important role, accompanying the protagonist.
Amikeco is suitable for the whole family, including kids 3+ and, as it has no spoken language, it is suitable for everyone, regardless origin or language. The technical and creative team of AMIKECO is Roberto Braham Chavez (script, director, puppets manipulation), Sergio Marroquin de Leon (music, scriptwriter assistant), Helene Josephides (puppets manipulation).

These first public performances of Amikeco in 2019 will take place at the Home for Cooperation (28 Marcou Dracou Street, Nicosia, 1102) on Saturday February 9 at 4pm and on Sunday February 10 2019 at 11am.

Canícula Puppets is a theater company with more than 15 years experience in theater and puppet theater. Canícula Puppets emerged from the need to find alternative tools of social communication through arts and culture. It was formed in Guatemala but is now based in Cyprus. In 2018 Canícula Puppets performed in 3 international festivals and 6 different countries, including Cyprus, and received its 1st international award.

The Home for Cooperation is a shared, safe space in the middle of the dividing lines established to create “a meeting space for cooperation, dialogue and co-creation”: a space built upon the values of diversity, solidarity, respect and creativity. It provides working spaces and opportunities for Non-Governmental Organisations and individuals to design and implement innovative projects. The unique location of the Home for Cooperation allows it to serve as a stepping stone for people who perhaps do not feel comfortable to fully engage with the ‘other’ but also as a bridge-builder for those who are ready for meaningful cooperation.
