Andreas Charalambous
Where it might be expected that the fire that destroyed his workshop would have put an end to his creative career, the opposite happened. Andreas Charalambous became more determined and continues to work tirelessly.
He will present part of this work at Gallery Kypriaki Gonia in Larnaca (45 Stadiou Street). The theme of his art and his visual quests are a continuation of his pre-fire work, although in some cases one feels, sometimes indirectly and sometimes more directly, they are influenced by the incident.
Always true to the two-dimensional, he strives for depth through a colourful quality and a profound spiritual dimension of objects in painting. He skillfully handles various materials in design, managing to reach a dreamlike dimension through a realistic rendition of objects.
Andreas Charalambous was born in Nicosia and studied Fine Arts in Moscow, where he worked as assistant professor at the Surikov School of Fine Arts. He taught painting and design in America and Sweden. He has his own School of Fine Arts in Nicosia.
He has had scores of solo exhibitions in Cyprus, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, Russia and elsewhere. He has participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus and in a number of countries abroad. He has created the sets and costumes for many plays for TH.O.K., the Free Theatre and television. He was Chairman and General Secretary of E.KA.T.E., a member of the Board of Directors of the Advisory Committee for Monuments.
The inauguration is on Friday, the 19th October at 7:30 p.m.
