Andros Efstathiou
The new work by Andros Efstathiou will be exhibited at Gallery Morfi from the 1st until the 12th of December 2011. Opening on Thursday December 1st at 7.30p.m in the presence of the artist.
Andros Efstathiou was born in Larnaka Lapithos at 1964. During the period of 1989-94 he studied in New York at the New York Studio School and Richwood Art Institute. After finishing his studies, he returned back to Cyprus.
He performed lots of solo and group exhibitions. In 2002 he exhibit at Alexandria Biennale and the same year at Florence Biennale. In 2005 Leeds University invited him to perform a seminar about his work and also to teach.
Once again, therefore, it is made obvious that Andros' work unfolds as a continuous process that carries elements and material of all that has gone on in the past, while simultaneously, manifests new negotiations formal, thematic and technical.
Strong references to 20th century modernist art, creatively transported and adapted into his own vision.
The color range either is less varied or not, showing once again the artist’s dexterity in the handling of color.
In general, Andros' work constitutes a brilliant example of fertile appropriation of sources from modernism’s tradition, with out any intention of mere copying or super fiscal reproduction. On the contrary, the sources have been creatively adapted scrapings from the artist’s memory, imbued with perennial and universal quality that make these paintings substantial works of art.
