Angels
Angels - Paiting Exhbition by Adi Atassi and Eleni Povi Karavioti
Adi Atassi
Adi Atassi was born in the city of Homs , in Syria, in 1962.
His love for art was primarily influenced by his early experiences in life, while growing up in a country, where landscape changes dramatically, where light is abundant and intense, and history and religion are to be found everywhere .At the age of 18 he entered the University of Damascus , where he studied Fine Arts.
In 1987 he moved to Cyprus, which was to become a second home to him. He started off as a lonely outsider. Nevertheless ,soon enough, the island became a familiar , friendly and loving environment in which he felt safe to create .
Although his earlier works concentrated primarily on realistic representations of the world , his new creations reflect a whole new approach which aims at the understanding of the “divinity” within us.
Adi’s angels are not supernatural beings. On the contrary, they bare the characteristics of everyday, ordinary people. That , which differentiates these angels , is their complete sense of inner freedom , the lack of any form to attachment to social rules or restricting fears.
In his work , Adi places his “human angels” within a social environment, in which not only do they belong, but within which they coexist in perfect harmony.
The strong , intense lines that determine the artist’s work bring to life his inner conception of the world.
Eleni Povi Karavioti

“ My beloved angels, untiring travelers, messengers of love”
The angels close their eyes, they travel and dream in a beautiful world of no misery, pain and suffering.
Hope takes the form of a smile on their faces while they await the call of love.
