Piano Duo: Anita Tomasevich & Eke Simons

The international duo Anita Tomasevich and Eke Simons will present a programme with true pearls of piano duo repertoire at Technopolis 20, on Sunday, 7th of October 2018, at 8:30pm.

With the well-known melodies yet not as often played in the concert podiums, the duo aspires to present this classical chamber form to the wider audience while keeping the high musical standard and artistic integrity.

The programme will include Piano sonata in D, K. 381 by W.A. Mozart, Hungarian Dances (selection) by J. Brahms and Peer Gynt Suite by E. Grieg.

W.A. Mozart - Pianosonate in D, K 381
One of Mozart’s early sonatas for piano four hands, composed for a piano duo with his sister Nannerl, also an excellent pianist. This sonata is often described as a typical Italian Symphony reduction with the clear lines of soloist and tutti ensemble. In its character, it reminds of Mozart's operas buffa as it paints vividly the comic character of the genre.

J. Brahms - Hungarian Dances (selection)
Based on Hungarian national melodies and originally written for the piano four hands, they were an instant hit as soon as they were published. Thanks to their great popularity, Brahms rewrote the first three Dances for piano solo and orchestrated several of them, while others were orchestrated by some of his friends and colleagues, including A. Dvorak. Still today, they are always a welcomed part of any four hands piano recital and among audience's favourite pieces in that genre.

E. Grieg - Peer Gynt Suite
Based on the Henrik Ibsen's drama of the same title, it is a musical story about a rise and fall of a Norwegian anti- hero, Peer Gynt. Originally written for orchestra it contains some of the most beautifully written melodies in Grieg's opus. Later on, Grieg will, himself, choose the most beautiful ones and rewrite them for piano solo and piano four hands duo.

A few words about the pianists
Anita Tomasevich performed in some of the major halls in The Netherlands, Spain, London, Italy, Russia and Serbia. She is a laureate of international competitions, including 1st price in Citta di Tortona Italy and she appeared regularly on Serbian National Radio and Television. She studied in the Music Academy in Novi Sad, Royal Conservatoire in Den Hague and was accepted for the PhD studies at the Royal Academy of London. She studied with renowned teachers such as Jegor Chugayev (student of Y. Milstein), Svetlana Bogino (student of L. Oborin) and Vladimir Ograkov (student of E. Gilies), Marcel Boudet and Ellen Corver, Yelena Richter, Lazar Berman, Geroge Sandor (student of Bella Bartok) and Stefan Vladar. In 2005 she released her first CD recording with works of Scarlatti, Chopin, Scriabin and Prokofiev. In 2006 her career as a concert pianist was stopped by the spinal injury. After almost ten years of recovery, Anita started performing again, both solo and chamber music, receiving excellent reviews. During season 2016/17 she had series of recitals in Cyprus, Italy and Holland and for the seasons 2018 /2019, she will perform solo and chamber music recitals in Serbia, Holland, Cyprus, Greece and Germany. Anita was founder and the Artistic Director of the “Avaton Music Festival” which received international acclaims.

Eke Simons is a Dutch pianist and appears as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe. She performs in the main halls in the Netherlands and Sweden, such as Vredenburg (Utrecht), Royal Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Royal Theatre Carré (Amsterdam), Konserthuset (Gothenburg) and Musikaliska (Stockholm). Her concerts are regularly being broadcasted by Dutch radio and television and her current tours include performances in Germany, Italy, Cyprus, Sweden and Great Britain. In 2013, Eke recorded her Solo Debut-CD with works from Schumann, Liszt, Wiklander and Janáček, which has received outstanding critics in the media. Eke Simons appears as a chamber musician with great artists like cellist Harro Ruijsenaars, pianist Dag Achatz and members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Being a passionate interpreter of contemporary music, Eke has performed “Parallel Lines” for piano and percussion of Duddell with the internationally known percussionist Colin Currie. She has played world premieres of numerous compositions, of which several have been dedicated to her. Among other prices, she won the “Sporck Vertolkers Prijs 2010” for her performance of “Chapters” of Antal Sporck. Eke received her Master Solo Piano with honours at the Royal Conservatoire, The Hague, where she has studied with Geoffrey Douglas Madge, David Kuyken and Han Louis Meijer. Additionally, she specialized in the Art of Song at the Royal Conservatoire, Bruxelles. She has participated in numerous masterclasses by international renowned musicians such as Pascal Devoyon, Stefan Vladar, Julius Drake and Steve Reich.
