Anna Alexandrou Art Exhibition
«A line, some colour, a random path. A journey has just begun! A search of the soul, a world, an image… Various materials becoming one, trying to fit, to write a course, a line… a life.»
Anna Alexandrou
Aigaia School of Art and Design is presenting Anna Alexandrou in her first solo exhibition. The exhibition will open on Wednesday 18th February until 11th March 2015 and it will be foreword by the artist Savvas Christodoulides.
The exhibition is part of a programme hosting Visual Artists’ exhibitions, seminars and cultural events, within the spaces of Aigaia School of Art and Design. This program’s aims are to give opportunities to Artists to show their work and at the same time create an active cultural and educational environment for all the students of the school to constantly develop and cultivate.
Anna Alexandrou was born in Nicosia in 1982. She studied in the Athens School of Fine Arts on a 5-year scholarship, where she graduated with honors in 2006. She specialised in painting with Anastasios Christakis as a tutor. During her studies she also worked with Sculpture and Printmaking. Since 2007, Anna is a member of the Aigaia academic team, while at the same time she remains an active award winning Visual Artist participating in exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad.
This is a significant point for Aigaia School of Art and Design as it is the first time that a solo exhibition for a member of its Academic team is organized and hosted in its premises.
Anna offers daily, thoroughly and with passion her knowledge and experiences to all the students of the school, contributing to the ongoing creation and cultivation of a distinct culture of young artists, where she also belongs. Her first solo exhibition officially marks her presence in the art scene and highlights her role as an important contemporary visual artist.
Her work - purely personal - is an illustrated journey of her experiences, which, through various symbolisms and symbols, tell a story of sky and earth, a dialogue between life and moments, between life in this world and her life. Anna selectively decodes some of the symbols in her work offering them as devices for “reading” her personal journey of images. In any case, any unwillingness on behalf of the viewers to “read” will not deprive them of the visual satisfaction and internal euphoria, as they will be from just looking at the work.
As Anna says: “Through my work, I try to express my thoughts, feelings and concerns. For me this is a game of composition, colour, material, emptiness and fullness on a surface. I experiment with different materials, like fabrics, paper, threads, sewing, letters, words, symbols and anything that helps me to visually compose what I am trying to say.”
Presented are mixed media Art pieces with multitude of colour, simplified forms and symbols in compositions where there is an absolute symmetry and organisation, results of her deepest experiences. The pieces, accessible and understandable for those who just want to see and stimulating for those who want to engage in more deep dialogues with life and art.
