A multinational cast of Italian, Greek, Cypriot and British performers will present this stunning opera by Tommaso Traetta, based on Sophocles’ ancient play. The artistic combination of opera, choreography, technology and vanguard costumes creates a sensational synthesis of classical and futuristic images. Creon, king of Thebes, prohibits the burial of Polynices who rose against Thebes, the city of his birth trying to conquer it. His sister Antigone, convinced to follow divine law rather than arbitrary state law, secretly buries her brother and is sentenced to death. Not even Haemon who loves Antigone and protests against his father’s decree, manages to save her.
