ART (Larnaca)

Yasmina Reza’s play ART (in a translation by Oscar winner Christopher Hampton) has been honoured with, among others, the Tony, Lawrence Olivier and Evening Standard Awards. In 2003 alpha square was launched in the Cyprus theatre scene with this English production, which had audiences sitting on the floor in the aisle of Theatro Ena Nicosia daily, since all performances were sold out.

Penny Loizou directs once more the cast of three in this poignant examination of modern art and contemporary human relationships. Serge (Paul Stewart) has bought a modern painting for a huge sum of money. Marc (Andreas Araouzos) hates it and cannot believe that a friend of his could possibly want such a work. Yvan (Demetris Demetriou) attempts, unsuccessfully, to placate both sides. If your friendship is based on tacit mutual agreement what happens when one person does something completely different and unexpected? The question is: Are you who you think you are or are you who your friends think you are?
