The Art of Dying
Photography Exhibition by Michalis Onisiforou.
Death is not what you imagine it to be! It is agony and pain, rage and tenderness, beauty and simultaneously a switching of worlds. What makes it terrifying is the unknown and at the same time man's fixation with matter. Somewhere therein lies the origin of fear and somewhere therein anxiety is born. The fear of a journey with no return into existential delirium and the anxiety for a life not lived as we would have wanted or as aptly put by Tassos Livaditis: "another lived our life and now we have to die in his place".
Death comes in various forms and shapes and the worst of all is reality. Every moment is a little death that grows within us until it devours us. Fortitude is to face your fears like a teenager and illuminate your day with the clear certainty of your footsteps as you move courageously towards the next challenge!
Reusing materials that have reached their life cycle, beyond the visual and ecological approach, is designed to convey the message that death is not the final end. A new beginning, a new voice, a new cycle is always supposedly real in every choice we make. The question that arises from all this is: do you dare?
If the title "The Art of Dying'" makes you uncomfortable then you are in the... right place. Like death and so art must be ruthless and not decorative. Familiarity with the wear and tear of the everyday prepares us for the long journey. Certainly not of death but of life!
Have a nice trip!
