Art & Internet
The French Cultural Centre and the ARTos Foundation cordially invite you to a lecture entitled “Art & Internet” by Jean-Paul Fourmentraux, author of the book by the same title. The lecture will take place on the 5th of May 2011 at 19:30 at the ARTos Foundation.
Since the mid-1990s, the Internet has brought profound changes in the creation and circulation of the contemporary arts. During this time, “artistic creation” of a more collective and interdisciplinary nature began to foreshadow future uses of the internet. The questions, to which the development of technology in relation to art has led, are more than a few. What triggers the being of art? What is the meaning of authorship? What is the process of “artists’ work” becoming “works of art”? What new ways of exhibiting and receiving art are being imagined? What is the relationship between technological research and artistic innovation? Does “immaterial” art lead to the disappearance of art objects?
Jean-Paul Fourmentraux is a sociologist and lecturer at the School of High Studies in Social Sciences, Lille 3 University.
