Antonis Simixis: lute

A musical journey along the tunes of the lute, which in the hands of the virtuoso player from Rhodes, Antonis Simixis, enters into unexpected musical realms.

Having graduated the Greek Conservatory with honours in both lute and lyre, and having studied classical guitar under the prominent soloist Stelios Golkaris, Antonis Simixis began his career as an artist, playing traditional music but his persistence in mastering the art of the lute and his interest to explore the full potential of this instrument inevitably led him to experiment with other genres such as Indian music, flamenco, jazz, and of course, classical music. Elements of all these music genres have been incorporated into his playing, which reveals and expands the melodic range of the lute.

After performances in many festivals across Greece and abroad (Sweden, Spain, Canada), Antonis Simixis is coming for the first time to the Axiothea Mansion to present in his unique way compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Francisco Tarrega, Isaac Albeniz, Astor Piazzola, Chick Corea and others, as well as traditional songs and original compositions.
