The Arts, Culture and European Identity
The A. G. Leventis Gallery Wednesday Lecture series will resume on 9 September, 2015. The first lecture will be given by Paul Dujardin, CEO and Artistic Director of the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels and member of the Honorary Committee of the A. G. Leventis Gallery. His lecture is entitled, 'The Arts, Culture and European Identity', and begins at 19:30.
Artists are uniquely suited to envisioning a new and better Europe. Those involved in the arts nurture and promote new ideas, forge new images, imagine new stories. They question the status quo and seek to break with convention. Europeans share a cultural space and a rich heritage. The Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, located in the heart of Europe, is well situated to rethink the boundaries of Europe. Here, at the centre of the ‘old Europe’, we can see clearly what ties us to the rest of the world. Against this background, Mr Dujardin will reflect on the past, present and future of Europe as a cultural space that must be shared among the many different peoples who make up today’s Europe, the ‘new Europe.’
The lecture is in English and seating is limited. To reserve a place, please call 22668838 ext. 100, Mrs Demetra Antonara (Monday-Friday 10:00-16:00) or email [email protected] by Monday 7 September.
