Scenes from the Dragons Lair

Babis Papadopoulos, one of the greatest guitarists and musicians of Greece, is known to the xiothea audience through his appearances with the remarkable “Himerini Kolymvites”, but also through his participation in the prominent band “Trypes” and his collaborations with major artists such as Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Floros Floridis, Socratis Malamas
and many others. Since December 2010, he has been performing with the Acoustic Set – a purely acoustic band, which in addition to him on the acoustic guitar, comprises Fotis Siotas on the viola, Michael Vrettas on the violin, Dionysis Makris on the double bass and Dimitris Vlachomitros on the bouzouki. The concert will feature pieces from the two solo albums of Babis Papadopoulos (“Scenes from a Trip”, Puzzlemusik 2008, and “From the Dragon’s Lair”, Puzzlemusik 2010) orchestrated for this particular band, as well as some of his compositions for Yiannis Economides’ movie “The Small Fish”. Representative pieces from the new album, which Babis Papadopoulos is recording at this time, will also be performed. The band proposes a modern outlook on Greek music, resulting from the fusion of folk music, contemporary harmony and avant-garde jazz improvisations. A minimalist approach that gives each composition a new dimension and brings out original melodies.
