Bacchae
By Euripides
Mitos Theatre Group, Cyprus
Director: Lucas Walevski
Pentheus: Elena Agathokleous
Leader of the Chorus: Lucas Walewski
Teiresias: Diomides Koufteros
With this performance the Mitos Theatre Group concludes its innovating work on Euripides’ Bacchae that begun in July 2009, focusing its research on the conflict of King Pentheus and God Dionysus and how it is perceived in today’s realities. Poor Pentheus, his disrespect to the God Dionysus and the following punishment, makes him a prominent figure among all tragic characters…This new King of Thebes stands for moderation and self-restraint versus God Dionysus who protects the vital acceptance of instincts… The Chorals are interpreted in ancient Greek and follow the rules of Prosody.
