Background: Surface, Form, Figure
From 5 to 27 February 2016, ZMART Gallery of the Loukia & Michael Zampelas Art Museum will host the new body of work of Christakis Christofi entitled Background: Surface, Form, Figure.
Christakis Christofi (b. 1975) originates from Arakapas. He currently resides and works in Larnaca.
He studied Plastic Arts at the Aix-Marseille University (DEUG, Licence and Master d’ Arts Plastiques) and French Literature (Licence, Maîtrise, D.E.A). He holds a doctorate of Humanities and Arts from the same University, majoring of in the dramatic - ‘plastic’ work of Samuel Beckett (1906 to 1989).
Having taught the postgraduate program of Theatre Studies of the OUC (2012-2015), he has also published a number of reviews concerning contemporary theatre. The artist has three solo exhibitions to his credit, two in France and one in Cyprus. He has also participated in several group exhibitions.
Christofi’s research at university delves into two principal fields, arts and literature, combining theory and practice through visual arts.
By experimenting in contemporary literature and theatre he has come to understand the correlation between various artistic expressions. His practice and theoretical studies are thus interwoven.
Beginning in 2000, his works have focused mainly on the bond between abstract and figurative art based on three methods of application:
2000-2005 | Background – Surface
2006-2008 | Background – Form
2009-2016 | Background – Figure
The exhibition will be open to the public on Friday, February 5 at 19:00.
As part of the exhibition, the artist will also be giving a preview to his solo show on Wednesday, 10 February 2016 at 19:00. [ Admission Free ]
