Bacon - Freud
Alpha Square and Almyra Hotel present a new stage-play, based on the true friendship between two art legends, Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud.
“bacon\freud” was written in Greek by Anthie Zachariadou (who wrote the English historical dramas “Caterina: Last Queen of Cyprus” and “Eleonora of Cyprus”, both staged recently by Alpha Square). Kyriazis and Araouzos co-direct themselves as Bacon and Freud, respectively, and Elena Katsouri designs set and costumes.
In 1988 in a Berlin gallery, a small painting was stolen, a portrait of the great artist Francis Bacon. Since then, it is nowhere to be found. This disappearance wasn’t just a loss of a great work. For the creator, famous painter Lucian Freud (grandson of Sigmund), that painting possibly represented the most significant relationship he ever had. That relationship had also been lost…
