John Sabry \ Katie Sabry \ Alex Welch
Bloodline is a two-day pop up exhibition presenting a collection of sculptures by Alex Welsh, paintings and mosaics by Katie Sabry, and honouring the photographic work of John Sabry, Katie's father, Alex's grandfather.
Paradise Lost
\ John Sabry (1914 - 2006)
An evocative collection of a vanished and very different Cyprus. Taken with sensitivity, a rare insight into a lost paradise.
John Sabry was a lifelong and dedicated photographer, painter, and cartographer .
One of the first people in Cyprus to use Kodachrome slide film, he received an award from the National Geographic for his work The world and its people in 1967.
This collection features rare and beautiful images of the now occupied areas of Cyprus; Kyrenia, Karpas peninsula, Bellapais, as well as lovely and very personal pictures of family and friends.
Fragments
/Katie Sabry
«I've called this collection of paintings and mosaics Fragments
because, although I try not to be political in my work, the word
popped into my mind after a friend said 'what a funny island, it's all chopped up and owned by different countries!'.
So here are my fragments, small oil paintings of places I love,
some in the republic, some in the occupied areas, and some in the sovereign base areas.
My other fragments are combined paintings under mosaic. The paintings, glass and pieces of wood, had been more or less forgotten, stored in my studio; like many discarded things in life, they have been rescued and reborn into things of beauty.»
Reflections
\ Alex Welch
A collection of sculptures created over the last three years,
using a variety of techniques and materials to communicate the subject matter.
An ongoing exploration into the materials, their texture and forms.
«Reflections of my inner and outer worlds, the fragility of nature, it's beauty, complexity and constant state of flux.»
