Body Unmuted by Lia Haraki
Lia Haraki’s new work is an audible experience including confessions made by the body which are not usually said and not commonly heard.
The recordings were made by Haraki in real time, meaning that the voice was recorded as a situation was actually happening. The body therefore is heard as it whispers, screams, laughs, moans, sings, cries, tells, confesses, reveals, and admits.
In ‘Body Unmuted’ the visitor enters a room and listens to the recordings by placing their own body in particular positions indicated by the artist, which aim at stimulating feelings of empathy or identification.
Overall, ‘Body Unmuted’ is a journey coming from the periphery of the room directed towards the centre of each visitor.
