Books and Printmaking
Aigaia School of Art & Design, in collaboration with Hambis Printmaking Museum is organising an exhibition concerning the relationship between books and the art of printmaking. The exhibition will take place between 18 October - 9 November 2014. The exhibition will be opened on Saturday, 18 October 2014, at 7:00pm, by the printmaker Chambis, who is also going to give a lecture on the subject.
An image can tell a story and written language can create images. Written language and images are imprinted, disseminated and remain unchanged over time with the unification of book and the art of printmaking. The aim of this exhibition is to promote this relationship. Printmaking becomes more accessible to the public through the illustration of books while books acquire artistic status through the printed illustrations they contain.
The exhibition also aims to encourage the stimulation of innovative ideas in the creation of illustrated books, book art as well as experimentation and interdisciplinary approaches to making prints and books.
One-‐day workshops will be organised, during the exhibition, regarding printmaking and books as an important encounter of speech and image as well as a lecture from Hélène Reeb Tsangaris on Monday, 3 November at 7:00pm on the topic of «Books and Printmaking».
The exhibition includes both prints and books from the collection of Chambis Printmaking Museum as well as professional printmakers and artists, students studying on the tertiary education programmes of Aigaia School of Art and Design, and students from the Aigaia Institute of Visual and Performing Arts.
The visiting hours of the exhibition are Monday – Saturday, 10:00am – 1:00pm & 4:00pm – 7:00pm. For more info visit www.aigaia.com.cy
