Brandy Sour

Cyprus : Brandy Sour

An eclectic mix of art spanning 99 years. Featuring work by Katie Sabry, the late John Sabry, Raymond Wilson and Alex Welch. Paintings, mosaics and metal work.

Katie Sabry
Katie will be showing large oil paintings, watercolours, mosaics and a selection of printed and hand painted cards.
“My watercolours are mostly painted on site, I never tire of the Cypriot land and seascape, I especially love trees and the sea; just sitting and observing the constant change of colour and the movement in the sea. I rarely plan my oil paintings, preferring to follow a line of colour. They develop by themselves. My dreams and memories appear through the colours and shapes with the outcome unknown.“ To see & read more visit… www.katiecolours.com

Raymond Wilson B.A. (Hons.)
New work by the artist will include surreal drawings focusing on loss and fear, childhood memories of the longings and desires that still live with us all. This externalising of the deep anxieties that we have can be a bridge where we can begin to face what we cannot bear to look at.Incorporating psychology, fine art and spirituality, his work is unique and allows us to look where we don’t want to look.

John Sabry
Also on show for the first time since his passing away in 2006, will be a small selection of paintings & photographs by the late John Sabry 1914 – 2006 , Katie’s father . John Sabry was born & raised in Kyrenia; a painter from an early age, he also worked as a professional photographer & managed the Kodak shop shop in Nicosia during the 1950’s. His photographs are evocative images from that era, taken on slide film .In 1965 three of his paintings were selected for the Royal Academy Summer show in London , and in 1965 John Sabry won a National Geographic Photographic award “the world & it’s people. John lived & worked as an artist in England, Lebanon & Italy. He remained a keen photographer & worked daily in his studio at Lemba near Paphos , until a few weeks before his death in 2006.

Alex Welch
Alex is a classically trained blacksmith, specialising in metal sculpture. His current work re-uses waste materials to create the humble animal and insect life of Cyprus. His background is in fine art, animation & art glass. Rarely is this quality of craftsmanship seen in Cyprus and the double integrity of eco philosophy and the highest standards in his work will not fail to please.
