Homage to Camille Saint-Saëns
Masterpieces for woodwinds and piano
French romantic music is an important Era in the history of music and a landmark for the evolution of wind instruments. One of the most important composers of this period is Camille Saint-Saëns. He dealt with the writing and promotion of woodwinds, writing three sonatas for oboe, clarinet and bassoon and a Romance for flute. Indeed, the last work he wrote shortly before he died was the Sonata for Bassoon.
At the Fifth Season of “Commandaria Orchestra and Friends” concert series four masterpieces of chamber music by Camille Saint-Saëns will be presented, in one concert where the audience can have the opportunity to get to know these unique French masterpieces and also to exchange creative ideas with the talented young artists.
The artists from Cyprus and Greece, Eva Stavrou (Flute), Krinio Troullou (Oboe), Ilias Papadopoulos (Clarinet), Mavroudes Troullos (Bassoon) and Areti Prosilia (Piano), have all studied in French-speaking countries with a huge tradition in the interpretation of Camille Saint-Saën’s music, and they aim to approach the musical language and culture of the composer and present it to the audience of Cyprus
