Cartoons from the 27 countries of the European Union
What do they laugh about in Germany? How does the British Humor translate on paper? Which nation hosts the darkest satire? Does the climate of a country play any role in the satire produced? How does the cartoon function as a national mirror? All these questions will be hopefully resolved in the cartoon exhibition "Cartoons in Europe of 27".
The initiative belongs to the Greek Cartoonists Association, which after introducing itself to the public through its website, an initial exhibition in the island of Lefkada and the publishing of its first album "environment SOS", opted for its next step to venture beyond the local borders and take a look to what its neighboring professionals are doing at the moment.
This ambitious project became possible through the collaboration and organizing skills of the Greek Parliament, whose previous local cartoon exhibition pleasantly surprised visitors and professionals alike (the exhibition was kept in display for quite some time after the initial schedule).
The result of this combined effort? A true panorama of the contemporary European Cartoon Scene: 90 professionals (34 from Greece plus at least one representative from each of the European Union countries) will show and see what differentiates them and what they have in common, displaying in practice 27 different flavors of fun.
The exhibit will be inaugurated on Tuesday 30 June, at 20:00, by H.E. The President of the Hellenic Parliament Mr. Dimitrios G. Sioufas and H.E. The President of the House of Representatives Mr. Marios Garoyian.
