Chamber Music Concert
The exceptional Trio with flute, violin and piano made up of the musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Orchestra Virginie Bove (flute), Sorin Alexandru Horlea (violin) and guest pianist Nicolas Melis will perform two afternoon concerts in Larnaka and Nicosia.
The ensemble will present a beautiful programme, mainly of works in the baroque style, with the opening work being an exception: this short modern composition by Cypriot composer Constantinos Papageorgio, titled Backstage Gossip for flute and violin, is about the last conversation musicians have just before appearing on stage. The piece is dedicated to the flutist of the ensemble, Virginie Βove. Violinist Sorin Alexandru Horlea’s following Little Baroque Suite for violin, flute and harpsichord is inspired by his love for Italian and French baroque music. The programme suitably continues with J. B. de Boismortier Sonatas for flute and violin op. 51 which are a most elegant example of the flute’s popularity in France at the time. Georg Friedrich Handel was one of the greatest geniuses of baroque times. The audience will enjoy his Trio sonata in B minor for flute, violin and harpsichord, op. 2, no. 1, full of boldness of invention and expressive range, with which the programme comes to its closure.
With the present concerts, the established chamber music series of the CySO travels to Larnaka for the first time.
