The Cultural Centre "Technopolis 20" presents a classical music night for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, on Friday, March 20, at 8.00 pm with George Georgiou (clarinet), Doros Zesimos (cello) and Corina Vassiliou (piano).

George Georgiou
George Georgiou was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1984. At the age of seven he started his musical training on the violin with Mr. Themis Christodoulou and at the age of 9 he started the clarinet as a scholarship student in the class of Mr. Dusko Zarkovic. During his early years, he was part of several orchestras and ensembles such as the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, Themis Christodoulou String Orchestra and the Cyprus Clarinet Band, and performed in concerts in Cyprus, Greece and Israel. By the age of 15, he had already passed the Advanced Certificate of the Royal Schools of Music in Clarinet and his Grade 8 in Violin with distinction. He was also a runner-up in the Eurovision competition for young musicians in Cyprus, in 2002. His teachers included Mr. Rocco Sbartella and Mr. Kleanthis Zampakides and he attended master classes with the Smith Quartet and the Apple Hill Chamber Players from who he received a full scholarship to participate in their annual summer festival in 2003.

Nowadays, he holds degrees from City University, London (Bmus and Master in Music Performance Studies) where he studied the clarinet with Mr. Julian Farrell and Mrs Joy Farrall at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD). During his studies at City University, he created and directed the City University Chamber Players in which he performed concerts through London, co-founded the City University Music Festival, and became a founding member of the City University Music Society and a member of the CU Symphony Orchestra committee. Since 2004 he has been a member of the CU Symphony Orchestra giving concert in LSO St. Luke's and St. John Smith Square. He has played with orchestras such as the Smithfield Simfonia, Skolia Ensemble and City Lights Ensemble and he was also a guest player with the GSMD wind band in a concert dedicated to Sofia Guabatuilina and broadcasted live by BBC radio 3. His collaboration with the CU Middle East ensemble permitted him to participate at Queen Elizabeth Hall in a concert, which was also recorded by the BBC. As a soloist, he made his solo debut with CUSO and he has also performed with the prestigious ensemble Moscow Virtuosi. He has performed several recitals in the UK, USA, Cyprus and Ireland. Mr. Georgiou is a returning counselor and camp director at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music summer festival and member of the organizing committee for their bi-communal workshops in Cyprus. Moreover, he has been a camp director of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra summer camp for the last few years.

Since September 2008, he has return to Cyprus where he is an active performer as well as an organizer. He work together with many organizations and ensembles such as the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, European University (Cyprus) and the Apple Hill Chamber Players. He is a member of Amphiliki Wind Quintet, European University Concert Band, president of the organization 'The Friends of ARTE' and the executive director of Cyprus Clarinet Studio Mr. Georgiou is also very interested in contemporary music. His interest had led him to collaborations with many young Cypriot composers. He has had several pieces dedicated to him and he hopes to promote Cypriot composers to the world.

Doros Zesimos
Doros Zesimos was born in Cyprus in 1981. In 1993 he started cello lessons with Evgenia Karapataki. In 1999 he started cello lessons with Aude-Marie Auphan, principal cellist of the Cyprus State Orchestra. In 2002 he continued his studies at the National State Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria, with Professor Anatoly Krastev and Vasil Kazandjiev, were he graduated with the Bachelor degree in 2006 and in 2007 he graduated with the degree "Master of violoncello".

Since 2006 he is a member of the Juenesses Musicales World Orchestra with concerts in Spain, Germany, Holland and Cyprus. During the period 1999-2001 he was the principal cellist of the Cyprus Youth State Orchestra. He has also played for orchestras in Bulgaria. As a member of the Cyprus Fulbright Ensemble in 2001 he participated in concerts in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, USA and Cyprus. He has attended music festivals in USA, Bulgaria, France and Cyprus and has had cello master classes with Yoncho Bayrov, Emilia Baranowska, Thomas Carroll, Maria Kliegel, Franz Bartolomey, Stephan Popov and Bridget MacRae.

Doros Zesimos has appeared as a soloist and a chamber music player in various concerts in Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, UK, France and USA. Furthermore he appeared in concerts with soprano Maria Papaioannou and Maestro Marco Balderi as well as with the Cyprus Opera Organization. He has collaborated with choreographer Machi Demetriadou– Lindahl, for the dance play Distant Land, and Eleana Alexandrou for the dance performance Moving solo, composer Fedros Kavallaris for the Japanese Culture days in Cyprus and composer Andis Skordis playing "Ou pa ca ra". Furthermore he performs around the island in different styles of music and ensembles.

Doros Zesimos is currently teaching at the Music Workshop of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, at Limassol's, Larnaka's and Paphos's Governmental Music Schools and is collaborating with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.

Corina Vassiliou
Corina Vassiliou started playing piano and cello at the Municipal School of Music from a young age, with Eleni Pishia as a piano teacher. She graduated from Lancaster University (BA Music) and Manchester University (MA Music). She holds a PhD in Music Education from the University of St. Louis (USA). Her Doctorate research was sponsored from the Research Promotion Foundation of Cyprus and Limassol Municipality. She works at the Municipal Museum-Archive "Solon Michaelidis" and Limassol's Municipal School of Music as a piano teacher. She is also responsible for the Children's Choir of the School.
