Clarinet and Percussion Recital
We are delighted to announce our upcoming event featuring George Georgiou (clarinet) and Marios Nicolaou (percussion) in a Clarinet and Percussion Recital. The concert is organised by Cyprus Clarinet Studio (CCS) and will take place on Tuesday, 5 November 2013, 20:30 at Archontiko Technon ARTE.
‘Cyprus Clarinet Studio’ was formed in 2009 and it aims to promote the clarinet in Cyprus through workshops, seminars, concert etc. So far, it worked with many musicians from Cyprus and abroad such as Erik Mandat (USA), Kinan Asmeh (Syria), Gabor Varga (Hungary), Cristo Barrios (Spain), Julian Farrell (UK) and Yiannis Samprovalakis (Greece).
George Georgiou was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, where he began his first clarinet lessons. He moved to London where he studied at City University (Bmus and MA in music performance studies) under the supervision of Professor Rhian Samuel. He studied clarinet with Julian Farrell and Joy Farral at GSMD. As soloist he appeared with CUSO and Moscow Vistuosi and he performed many recitals at Cyprus, UK, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Greece and USA. He is artist in residence at the Avaton Music Festival and member of Evohe Wind Quintet and Chronos Contemporary Music Ensemble.
Marios Nicolaou was born in Limassol in 1974. He studied percussion at the Athens Conservatory with D. Marinakis, and at the Hochschule für Musik Köln with C. Caskel and C. Tarcha, where he graduated with “Auszeichnung”. He participated in the International Ensemble Modern Academy (Schwaz/Austria) and won the “Alexandra Trianti” scholarship from the Athens Megaron. He has collaborated with ensembles and conductors such as P. Eötvös, D. Bouliane, F. Ollu, K. De Roo, Th. Antoniou, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Ensemble Neue Music Köln, ensemble dissonΑrt, Chronos ensemble, and the Greek Composers Union Ensemble. He is artist in residence at the Avaton Music Festival and member of Ergon Ensemble and Chronos Contemporary Music Ensemble.
