The Colours of the Celestial City

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra presents a series of three family concerts and two community outreach concerts titled “The Colours of the Celestial City”. The celestial city is no other than the classical symphony orchestra whose various instrumental groups offer a rich palette of sound- colours.

In the concerts the audience will be introduced to the wonderful sound-colours of a classical orchestra through specially selected works such as Pizzicato Polka by J. Strauss and Divertimento in B flat major by Mozart for strings, “Mille regrets” by J. de Prés arranged for brass instruments by Α. Baltas, Venetian Gondola Song by Mendelssohn arranged for orchestra by Α. Baltas, Humoresque in G flat major by Dvorak arranged for orchestra by A. Schmid and other works by Gastoldi, Handel, Delibes and Baltas. The Orchestra will be conducted by its Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Alkis Baltas who will also introduce the musical works and instruments to the audience.

The Family Concerts “The Colours of the Celestial City” are addressed to children from the age of 6 and above, their parents and the wider audience and will be given on Friday 15 November 2013 at Pallas Theatre, Paphos Gate, Nicosia at 17:00 and 18:30 and on Wednesday 20 November at Larnaka Municipal Theatre at 18:30.

The community outreach concerts “The Colours of the Celestial City“, which aim to bring classical music and other kinds of orchestral music closer to the wider public, will be given as follows: Thursday 21 November 2013 at the Municipal Theatre “Costas Montis”, Town Hall, Ayios Dometios at 19:30. It is organized in collaboration with Ayios Dometios Municipality for the members of the Social Programmes (Elderly People’s Centre and Children’s Club) of the Multifunctional Foundation of Ayios Dometios and for the residents of Ayios Dometios. Friday 22 November 2013 at the Events Hall of the Community Councils of Pano and Kato Deftera at 19:30. It is organized in collaboration with the Community Councils of Pano and Kato Deftera.

Entrance to the community outreach concerts is free.
