Crossroads VI Youth Camp
Crossroads Youth Camp takes place from Friday 29th July until Sunday 7th August 2016 in Kampos village in the district of Nicosia and is implemented by POST Research Institute and the Association of Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) and organised by the NGO TheatrEtc as part of the project ‘Education for a Culture of Peace as a Vehicle for Reconciliation in Cyprus’, funded by the European Union under the Cypriot Civil Society in Action IV programme.
Crossroads Youth Camp is designed for young people aged 15 to 18 years old from every community living in Cyprus and participation is free. It employs theatre and applied theatre techniques at the core of its activities, along with other expressive art forms and non-formal and informal tools, aiming at creating a safe space for creative learning, democratic dialogue and mutual understanding and respect between young people from various communities in Cyprus and particularly communities living across the divide. The camp compliments the objectives of the ‘Education for a Culture of Peace as a Vehicle for Reconciliation in Cyprus’ project by promoting Culture of Peace methodologies in its activities.
The camp process includes workshops by skilled educators and facilitators using applied theatre methodologies such as devised theatre as well as dialogue and trust building activities. Participants will also have the opportunity to work with other expressive art forms through shorter visiting facilitators’ workshops (mask making, music, dance and others). The camp schedule also includes outdoor activities as well as a day trip to the ancient theatre of Soloi.
Crossroads Youth Camp concludes with a performance by the participants, which showcases their learning process and is built by them as they are guided through a series of devised theatre workshops. The performance is open to and free for the public and takes place on Sunday 7th August at Kampos village.
