Cultural Orientation and the European Union's Actions
The next lecture in the Gallery’s Wednesday Lecture series will be held on 2 March at 19:30 with guest lecturer Mrs Androulla Vassiliou, Former European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
Since its creation the European Union has developed programmes and policies which have had as a focus the strong bond between culture and development. These programmes emphasized the importance of intercultural dialogue on an international level and promoted cultural identity. They strengthened the promotion of culture as a catalyst for creativity, development, employment, innovation and competitiveness and are seen as a significant element in the European Union's international relations. Intercultural dialogue can be understood as vital to the understanding of European identity, citizenship and social cohesion.
Androulla Vassiliou’s position as Former European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth will help introduce us to the policies and activities that help in the establishment of a stronger cultural state.
Limited availability. Please reserve a place at [email protected] or telephone 22668838, Monday-Friday, 10.00-16.00 by Monday, 29 February 2016.
