Cyprus International Film Festival 2012
The seventh edition of Cyprus International Film Festival is a fact. Based on the creative truth which young, upcoming filmmakers point out by filming in the midst of this multileveled crisis, this year’s edition program is being unfolded: From Urban Space section and the Short Films theme screenings which are both introduced for the first time, Official Competition Section (Golden Aphrodite) as well as the film premieres in Panorama Section.
Within the framework of this dynamic, Jerks by Stelios Kammitsis, which has already won international acclamation, is going to be the festival’s opening film.
Among this year’s edition innovations, CYPRESS Veterans’ Award is included. This award is going to be given by a three party Jury Committee consisted of respected Cypriot journalists, to one of the films selected for the Panorama section. Furthermore, Short Films theme screenings for Short Films and CYIFF’s Got Talent categories which present the debut short films by upcoming filmmakers, as well Urban Space category which introduces a “brave new world”- the auteur gaze for people and urban space- to the festival, comprise the festival’s new fields of artistic activity.
Moreover, the program’s established section structure, including the film premieres by well acclaimed filmmakers, Greek and Greek-Cypriot’s who live abroad films which are going to be screened in Nostimon Imar section, as well as Missing Person on the road ’74 historical documentary by Heleni Giokari, which narrates the story of missing Cypriots, “Poets in No Man’s Land” documentary by professor Stefanos Stefanides, as well as Focus on contemporary Israeli filmmakers and Indonesian cinema, set the special organization’s identity up.
Parallel Activities
Within the festival’s framework of urban space exploration a book presentation of Aggeliki Mylonaki’s “From the Courtyards to the Living rooms” and “Work Like Crazy» is going to be held on 21.10.2012. A round table conversation under the title «Filming the city» is going to take place right afterwards, among Dr of Film Studies Aggeliki Milonaki, Professor Stefanos Stefanides, director Bill Mousoulis and Aigli Kammitsi, who is a member of “Nicosia: European Capital of Culture 2017” Committee, as well as Stavros Sideras, one of the most important artists, filmmakers and composers.
Closing Ceremony
Festival organizers are extremely proud to have the premiere screening in Cyprus of Nikos Koundouros’ new film, called “The Ship”, which is going to take place on October 22nd at Pallas theatre. During the same event, the closing ceremony and announcement of the award winners is going to take place.
